Salvia elegans 'Tangerine'
About the Sage 'Family': Sage is an evergreen, perennial member of the Lamiaceae family native to the Mediterranean region. It has a long history of medicinal and culinary use as well as some varieties making particularly pretty ornamental herbs as well. During the late spring and summer sage flowers come out which can range in colour based on variety but are mostly pink or purple. The leaves are most often greyish green, slightly rugose textured and covered in small, soft hairs and have a warm, savoury, slightly peppery flavour. Sage is listed as one the 'essential herbs' in Britain along with Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme. A traditional compliment to pork or stuffing, Sage has many culinary uses and goes well with cheeses or flavouring pasta. The leaves can also be used to flavour a warm herbal tea.
About Tangerine Sage: This beautiful plant comes from a group of Sages often referred to as fruit Sages. As you may expect, the leaves of this plant have a lovely fruity, tangerine scent and flavour. This makes them ideal to add to Summer drinks and fruity dishes. But this plant is more than that, coming back every year this perennial Sage would benefit from some shelter over the Winter to make sure it comes back to life in the Spring. This makes it an ideal plant to grow in a pot. All of the salvia elegans Sages have beautiful flowers and Tangerine Sage is no exception. The bright red blooms look stunning on any patio or in a border. Make sure you grow it somewhere you will brush past it otherwise you might lose out on the lovely scent. Tangerine Sage is more than a fragrant herb it’s attractive and will fill your garden with a lovely scent.
Grows to around 50-60cm in height.
